'A year and a half ago, the vet gave him a week to live': Single-braincelled orange cat that was diagnosed with liver disease refuses to listen to his vet and lives on just to prove him wrong

Cats are incredibly strong creatures. They may look fluffy and tiny and adorable, but they are resilient as heck. We have seen cats live through some insane things. We have seen a cat fall 5 stories out of a window and make a full recovery. We have seen a cat with a strange lump on its head live a long and happy life with its owner despite its disability. We've seen a kitten born with "wobbly cat syndrome" create just as much chaos and shenanigans as any other cat, without even noticing that anything was wrong with her. 

Maybe it's really true then that cats have nine lives, because miracles seem to happen to them all the time. It doesn't even surprise us that this beautiful ginger feline made it longer than he was told he was going to make it. Because miracles. And also because he's orange, and everyone knows that orange cats don't waste their braincell on listening to veterinarians. Pssh.

  • Miracles sometimes really do happen, and this is proof of that. We would have cried our eyeballs out when we got the news about this little guy, and we would have cherished every day with him since, which we are sure you are doing. Make sure that every day that he has is the best day that he has.

    JadedMedia5152 OP Sorry for the quality of the photo, I took it on my iPhone 6. He was diagnosed with liver disease to the point where his enzyme levels weren't readable on the Vet's machines. So we did chemo and other things. Now his levels are way down (still higher than normal, but in the manageable range).

    deferredmomentum Idk if you're medical but if you are do you know why chemo worked for the liver failure? (Unless the liver failure was caused by cancer in the first place in which case I can figure that one out lol)

    JadedMedia5152 OP Well, he was on the chemo for about 2-3 months after the first high out of sight reading. The vet suggested that we could do some invasive surgery to get get liver samples, but given the test results it might well be cancer anyways. So we started him on the chemo. He didn't show any improvement on the chemo when he got that last high result (a year and half ago). So I decided to stop his treatment, save for some liver enzyme supplement he's been on. He actually perked up after

    JadedMedia5152 OP The vet's actually been pretty good. She helped him recover from diabetes and get off insulin about 4 years ago.

  • Don't you dare take his toy from him. It is his, it makes him happy, and everything that makes him happy makes us happy. We trust that the owners understand this and are acting on it, and we are thankful for everything that they have done and everything that they will do for him.
